Words From a Silenced Poet

A songwriting project

Picture
From 2019 - 2021, I wrote nearly 100 original songs as a coping mechanism for certain life transitions and changes. I now compile and document those songs into the archive: The Words From a Silenced Poet.

This project tells the story of coming home to yourself in three steps: Denial, Bargaining, and Acceptance.

The story spans 3 albums:
  • Volume I: THE WOUND
  • Volume II: BLEEDING OUT
  • Volume III: NO ONE'S SAVIOR

Weekly updates are available on my YouTube Channel. You can also navigate through this page to view the archive as each song becomes available.

Thank you for being here, and for caring to hear these lost words from a silenced poet.

Volume I: The Wound

Picture
ABOUT VOLUME I: THE WOUND
This album explores a feeling of denial when approaching your wounds. The speaker notices they are wounded, and they sit there comfortably, not yet ready to get better. At times, they see their pain as romantic and beautiful.

The song Wreckage best describes this feeling with the lyrics:

I think fondly of the wreckage
in the stairway we created.
Broken glasses in their painted frames,
expressionistic cases.
All the patrons pass
and scoff at us
and what we call our art.
They think they could do much better
standing, blinded in the dark.

Volume II: BLEEDING OUT

Picture
ABOUT VOLUME II: BLEEDING OUT
This album explores a person bargaining for their worth. The speaker believes it's their duty to assimilate to the pain around them, and often thinks: "there must be something wrong with me that's creating all of this."

They want to get better, but don't know how. They want to change, but are not yet ready to let go of their old life to receive their new life.

About Volume III: No one's savior
This album explores the feeling of acceptance of self, and realizing your power.

It is a collection of songs that enforce various boundaries that protect the speaker from mistreatment and abuse. This album teaches you to walk away from what is not meant for you.

This feeling of acceptance is best demonstrated in the song Body Count:

You cut these rules into my body
said, "it's all for love, I'm sorry."
I can heal over these scars
but they're just scars
no "art" about it.
(...)
I wanted so deeply to belong to you
But I wanted so deeply to belong to me too.
