This piece was created with oil paint on stretched canvas. While exhibiting this piece at a show, a patron passed by and criticized the piece for denying its subject matter. I replied that the piece was aiming for a subtlety, and that the subject matter did not matter as much as shift between color and hue. The patron replied that it was "too much for the sake of subtlety."
I personally loved the description, and the saying stuck. Similar to the Impressionist movement gaining its name from critics, so does this piece.
